Erling Haaland (Manchester City)
Erling Haaland starts the season as the favourite to win the Premier League Golden Boot once again. Since joining Manchester City in 2022, he has won the award three times in four seasons.
The only season he missed out was 2025–26, when Mohamed Salah finished with 29 goals. Alexander Isak scored 23, while Haaland managed 22 in what was a disappointing campaign for Manchester City, who finished third under Pep Guardiola.
Going into the 2026–27 season, Haaland remains the man to beat. There are several good strikers in the league, but he is still the bookmakers’ favourite to finish as the top scorer.
Alexander Isak (Liverpool)
Alexander Isak joined Liverpool from Newcastle United for a club-record fee of £124 million in the summer of 2025. Injuries limited him for most of his first season at Anfield, but everyone knows what he can do when fully fit.
He scored 23 Premier League goals for Newcastle in the 2024–25 season and has already shown that he can compete with the best strikers in England. If he stays fit, Isak could be Haaland’s biggest challenger for the Golden Boot.
Viktor Gyökeres (Arsenal)
Arsenal signed Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting Lisbon for around £55 million. He made an immediate impact by scoring 14 league goals and finishing as Arsenal’s top scorer in his first season.
With another year to settle into the Premier League and Arsenal expected to create plenty of chances, Gyökeres has a good chance of being involved in the Golden Boot race.
Igor Thiago (Brentford)
Igor Thiago enjoyed an excellent season, scoring 22 Premier League goals for Brentford. He has quickly become one of the league’s most exciting strikers.
Brentford deserve a lot of credit for their recruitment. Ivan Toney scored 20 goals in 2022–23, Bryan Mbeumo scored 20, and Yoane Wissa scored 19 in 2024–25 before moving to Manchester United and Newcastle United respectively.
Thiago looks ready to continue that tradition and should be taken seriously as a Golden Boot contender this season.
Matheus Cunha (Manchester United)
Matheus Cunha scored 10 goals and provided two assists in his first season at Manchester United. One of his biggest strengths is his versatility, as he can play as a striker, left winger or attacking midfielder.
If manager Michael Carrick can get the best out of him, Cunha could improve his goal tally and become an outside contender for the Golden Boot.
Bryan Mbeumo (Manchester United)
Bryan Mbeumo earned his move to Manchester United after several impressive seasons with Brentford, where he regularly scored between 15 and 20 league goals.
He continued that form by scoring 11 goals and providing three assists in his first season for United. If he becomes the team’s main goalscorer this season, Mbeumo has every chance of finishing among the Premier League’s top scorers.
Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa)
Ollie Watkins once again proved why he remains Aston Villa’s main attacking threat under Unai Emery, finishing the 2025–26 Premier League season with 16 goals. Despite facing stiff competition for a starting place during parts of the campaign, the England international delivered when it mattered most, helping Villa secure another strong league finish.
While Emery’s tactical system continued to get the best out of his striker. His consistency in front of goal reinforces his reputation as one of the Premier League’s most reliable forwards heading into the 2026–27 season.
Joao Pedro (Chelsea)
Joao Pedro enjoyed a superb Premier League campaign for Chelsea, scoring 15 league goals during the 2025–26 season. The Brazilian forward quickly established himself as a key player in Chelsea’s attack, to become one of the club’s standout performers.
While his 26 goals in all competitions highlighted his consistency across multiple tournaments. Heading into the 2026–27 season, Joao Pedro looks set to be one of the Premier League’s most dangerous forwards and a genuine contender for the Golden Boot.
Benjamin Sesko (Manchester United)
Benjamin Sesko enjoyed a promising debut Premier League season after completing his high-profile move from RB Leipzig to Manchester United in a deal worth up to £73.7 million. The Slovenian striker scored 11 league goals during the 2025–26 campaign adapting to a new league.
While his numbers fell short of the division’s leading scorers, Sesko’s demonstrated plenty of potential and formed an important part of United’s attack. With a full Premier League season under his belt and another year to develop, the 23-year-old could take a significant step forward in the 2026–27 campaign and emerge as an outside contender for the Golden Boot.
